Dr. Bonaventura Clotet
Bonaventura Clotet, MD, PhD is head of the HIV Unit and Director of the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Badalona. Dr. Clotet graduated from Barcelona’s Universitat Autónoma (UAB) in 1976 with a degree in Medicine & Surgery and received his PhD in 1981 for research into markers in connective tissue diseases. Sin 1979 he has held the position of Associate Professor at the UAB’s Faculty of Medicine.
Since 2006 he has been Co-Director of the HIVACAT project at Barcelona’s Hospital Clìnic, in conjunction with Dr Gatell. These two institutions have formed a partnership to create a pioneering research project into the development of vaccines against HIV in Catalonia.
Dr. Clotet is the author of more than 500 international scientific publications, 90% of which belong to Q1, and is Peer Reviewer for the chief publications in the sector such as The Lancet, AIDS, Antiviral Therapy, JAIDS, Aids Research and Human Retroviruses. His scientific publications have a very high citation level (over 1200 per year).
Clotet is also Co-director of the online magazine Aids Cyber Journal, forming part of the pioneering continued medical training programme Timely Topics in Medicine-AIDS, which has been providing AIDS information services for more than 10 years.
Dr. Clotet was named Co-chair of Track B of the Barcelona International AIDS Conference in 2002, and is member of the Governing Council of the IAS.
He has published a number of articles and books specializing in Retrovirology including: Guide to Management of HIV Drug Resistance, Antiretrovirals Pharmacokinetics and Viral Hepatitis in HIV Infected Subjects (published yearly since the year 2000) and Practical AIDS Guide: Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment (with annual editions since 1990). He has participated in a number of national and international congresses, where he has chaired a wide variety of round-table discussions and symposiums.
Dr Clotet has designed and coordinated a number of multi-centre studies of great scientific importance including SWATCH, HAVANNA; RETROGEN, TIBET, INTENSE, INTEGRAL and MARAVIBOOST.
He has recently been appointed Advisor to the Board of Directors at the Prince of Girona Foundation.
