Pre-doctoral fellowship in statistical genomics and bioinformatics: Models for Human Microbiome Structure & Dynamics

12.09.14 Pre-doctoral fellowship in statistical genomics and bioinformatics: Models for Human Microbiome Structure & Dynamics - Status: Closed

The Càtedra de la Sida i Malalties Relacionades of the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC), with the support of Noel Alimentaria S.A.U and the Institute for AIDS Research IrsiCaixa, is offering a pre-doctoral fellowship to conduct a PhD thesis in the Doctoral program on Experimental Sciences and Technology of the UVic-UCC.

RESEARCH TOPIC: Model Development for Human Microbiome Structure & Dynamics.

Human microbiome is known to have an important role in health and disease and has revealed as a key player in several highly prevalent pathologies, mainly those with an inflammatory basis. Large-scale metagenomic studies are currently conducted in the framework of the Càtedra de la Sida i Malalties Relacionades, jointly funded by UVic-UCC, the Fight Against AIDS Foundation and IrsiCaixa. The aim of these metagenomic studies is to identify links between the structural and dynamic features of the gut microbiome and HIV infection clinical evolution. In this research context, the candidate will undertake the development of innovative methods for the study of the human gut microbiome structure at acute/chronic HIV infection and also to model microbiome dynamics as a function HIV infection evolution.

Work will be based in IrsiCaixa (Badalona) and in the UVic-UCC (Vic).

SUPERVISION: The PhD thesis will be co-supervised by:

- Marc Noguera: researcher. Molecular Epidemiology group, IrsiCaixa and Càtedra de la Sida i Malalties Relacionades, UVIC-UCC.

- M.Luz Calle: associate professor. Systems Biology Department and PI of the Bionformatics and Medical Statistics Group, UVIC-UCC.

REQUIREMENTS:

We require a very motivated person holding an official Master’s degree in Omics Data Analysis, Statistics or Bioinformatics.

HOW TO APPLY:

Send an updated CV, including academic record of both general and master degree, to Marc Noguera (mnoguera@irsicaixa.es) and M.Luz Calle (malu.calle@uvic.cat).

DEADLINE: October 31
